The Battle of Blackwater Bay
“Blackwater” was one of the greatest episodes, not only of Game Of Thrones, but of television history. I’m amazed at how brilliantly it was directed, acted, and adapted from the book.
Although my allegiance lies in the North, Tyrion a.k.a the brilliant Peter Dinklage, has my sword any day! Granted I’ve read the book and know what happens, nevertheless it was still beautiful to watch. A lot of the scenes didn’t quite translate in the book like they did in the show. And vice versa, of course. For example, Tyrion’s “St. Crispin’s Day” speech was much more motivational in the book than it was in the show. (Although I did enjoy the line, “Those are brave men knocking at our door, LET’S GO KILL THEM!”)
Also the fighting was obviously a lot more detailed and a lot longer in the book, which had me more invested in the battle and made me feel as if I was there. But I don’t like to nitpick. This episode was quite brilliant. Although a few scenes weren’t the same as in the book, the show deserved a standing ovation for this:

I’ll tell you one thing. THAT certainly did not translate as well in the book as it did in the show.
Can’t wait for the season finale! The battle of Blackwater Bay may be over, but the war is just beginning.

“Everyone is a reader… Some just haven’t found their favorite book yet.” Reminiscent of those lovely vintage reading PSA posters.
Note: I was like, “whoa,” when I heard Carlos A. Gomez’s spoken word a little while ago. Recently, I came across another girl’s version of Gomez’s poem based on happenings in her own country of Pakistan. She called it “Genocide Localized.” Her name’s Pavalshay, and she was only 17 years old…

Thank You, 60 Minutes
This week, something rare happened: A major U.S. media outlet actually showed the effects of the Israeli occupation on Palestinians.
But the candid reporting by “60 Minutes”, America’s most respected news program, has unleashed a furious response from major Jewish and right-wing Christian groups. They’ve generated over 29,000 letters of complaint — many before the episode even aired.
Unless we push back now — and thank “60 Minutes” — real journalism like this will become even more rare. Can you sign our petition to thank “60 Minutes”?

>Toronto Comic Con
Yes, I know. WWTCC happened two weeks ago, but I’ve been too busy (or rather too lazy) to write a blog post. So here it goes.
Hi guys! So two weeks ago, me and some friends went to the Metro Convention Centre for the annual Wizard World Toronto Comic Con! If you’ve never been to a con, then I suggest you search up when one is going to be in your town. It’s really the most fun you’ll ever have.
You’ll see cool costumes, hot girl costumes, comic books and graphic novels, celebrities and so much more! There’s always something for somebody, even if you’re not a comic book fan. You’ll still have a good time. Although this year wasn’t as amazing as I anticipated.
See, we only started going to cons last year, starting with Toronto CC. So I guess last year, we had Con Goggles (kinda like beer goggles, just…nerdier). We were so entranced by the bright colours, the extravagant costumes, the cheap priced graphic novels, the famous celebrities, and the women. Dear god, the women.
So we had big expectations for this year. Unfortunately, they didn’t meet them. But we still had a great time! I didn’t buy too much, just The Guild graphic novel and a few other knick-knacks. I’ve yet to find a Green Lantern light-up ring that is reasonably priced. If you know anywhere I can get one in Toronto, for god sakes let me know! The costumes were pretty good. Not too many people dressed up, and the ones that did weren’t spectacular.
I think the coolest part of CC this year was seeing the celebrities. We met The Edge (I’m not a fan of wrestling, but my buddy was really excited), Colin Ferguson (Eureka), and Sean Maher (Firefly, Serenity)! It was cool to meet the doctor on the firefly! BUT I have to say the COOLEST person I met was Hannah Spear, a.k.a Valerie Lapomme, a.k.a Sexy Nerd Girl! If you don’t know who she is, click on that embedded link and check out some of her videos! I’m a big fan!
I got to meet her and her whole team! And the coolest part was, they knew who I was even before I introduced myself! Waaah! We talked, they gave me a free t-shirt, she signed a poster, and we took some pictures together! It was pretty awesome. Definitely made up for the mediocre con.
All in all, we had a pretty good time. But not nearly as good as Fan Expo last year. This year, Fan Expo is going to be even bigger! We’re going for 2 days instead of 1, we’re going to attend some panels, AND hopefully going to meet the legendary Patrick Stewart and STAN LEE! Let me say that again, STAN LEE!
See you in August, nerdmigos! ;)

The BBC have outdone themselves with this year’s April Fools joke.

>Aprils Fools via My Grandparents
So this morning, I wake up and start watching Red: The Werewolf Hunter on TV. As I’m watching Felicia Day pick off werewolves, I go to check my phone and see I got a few missed calls from my grandmother. This is odd because she usually doesn’t call me. Then I go to my room to call and her and while I’m doing that, I notice an email from her. The email reads:
Hey Yusuf you are not answering your phone. Trying to call you to say that I will be moving to Texas next week.
Zuddi has another wife for last five years. TC.
Love Always.
Hanna.
So I’m like WTF!? You have to understand, my grandfather is the one of the sweetest individuals I know. He would NEVER do something like that. I guess I was a little groggy and the werewolves got to me somehow. Anyway, I call her and she tells me that some insurance guy called about another property and a second income, and blah blah blah. I’m still not quite sure of the details, but pretty much she told me he had an apartment in another city where he was supporting another wife. Then she tells me she’s moving to TEXAS to stay with her other cousins.
My grandfather married to a second wife? Sneaking away to see her? It can’t be! I go to tell my mother all of this information, and she’s just as shocked as I. She was skeptical, like myself, but still shocked nonetheless. She’s calls my uncle, my uncle calls my grandmother, my mom calls my grandfather. And then we learn the truth.
“What day is it today?”, my grandfather says.
“Oh. Ohhhhhhh! You f-“, I said.
So it was all a big april fools prank. Played by my grandparents! Out of all my deceiving and scheming friends, my grandma and grandpa are the ones to prank us. All I have to say is well done, guys. Well done. You got me. Happy April Fools Day!
I’m just glad the story wasn’t true!
>All The Rowboats
Nah, just kidding. He came and went.
Regina Spektor is back with a brand new single (two actually), brand new music video, and YES…a brand new album! It’s called “What We Saw From The Cheap Seats”, which I think is a brilliant title for her quirky music.
If you’ve never heard of Regina Spektor, then why are you still reading this!? Go on YouTube and listen to ANY of her songs and guaranteed you’ll fall in love with her voice. I’m not even going to insert a link. You have to work hard and travel far for the love of music!
Sorry, I’m getting carried away. I’m just really excited! She is one of my favourite artists. She honestly doesn’t have one bad song. I first found out about her 2 years ago at my band’s practise. My lead singer showed me her song “Music Box”, and I was skeptical at first because of her strange style of singing. But then she started to grow on me. And then I listened to all her albums and fell in love. She’s also quite a ‘looker’ herself. Eh?
But unfortunately, my newfound discovery of Ms. Spektor in 2010 was, alas, too late. For you see, as I was immersing myself in her music and enlisting as a soldier in the Spektor Army, she happened to be performing a concert in Toronto. I only found out a few days later and was devastated. But this time I shall not fail! I’ve been waiting 2 years for her to release a new album so she could go on tour again. She hasn’t posted Canadian dates yet, but when she does you can be sure I’ll be first in line. Suckas!
In the meantime, you can pre-order her awesome new album on iTunes! AND check out her BRAND SPANKING NEW music video for her single, “All The Rowboats”!
>Live Chats: Networking for the 21st Century
Recently in my life, I’ve been doing a lot of networking…via LIVE CHAT!
Live chats are a great way to develop relationships with more well-known people. I’ve recently been doing a lot of live chats with people from the HelloGiggles team. I’m talking big name actors and writers from Degrassi, The Human Centipede, 2 Broke Girls, Millionaire Matchmaker and other hit shows and movies! Since HelloGiggles is still quite small in terms of fan base, it’s really easy to have a one-on-one with some of these people since there are only 20 of you in the chatroom. Plus, the more I get in with the team of HG, the closer I get to getting in touch with Zooey Deschanel! I’m so close and I can smell her perfume!!!
Now, don’t read this and go out thinking you’re going to become best friends with the Jonas Brothers the next time they do a live chat; because it doesn’t work like that (trust me, I’ve tried). Big celebrities who do live chats will seldom answer you because there are literally THOUSANDS of people trying to communicate. But if you shoot for people who are a little less famous, then you’ll get through!
I’ve done a few live chats with the amazing Felicia Day (The Guild, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) as well, especially some where we were BOTH on webcam! So now she knows me, she always reads my twitter comments, and she responds on live chats to me! So if I’m ever in the L.A. area and I bump into her…(that sounded creepy, but you know what I mean).
YouTube sensation Mia Rose and I have become well acquainted on numerous live chats, and now she even talks about me in her interviews! No joke. We’re good friends now ;)
So take my tip: If you want to get in touch with somebody who is well-known, but not too famous, follow them on FB or Twitter and see if they do live chats. Trust me, it is a great way to network and get known with famous people or people who are “in the industry”! They may even help you out, or even cooler, they might remember you if you ever meet them in person! Happy Hunting! ;)
